In the MCE mobile app, each stop a courier makes and action made during that stop is recorded though the Site Visit feature. Site visits include

Access to detailed site information needed by courier
Check-in and check-out times digitally recorded
Ensure compliance with delivery time windows and requirements
Document if lockboxes are empty
Document if samples are damaged or packaged incorrectly
Scan in and scan out specimens or supplies to track ownership

Specimen Tracking

MCE utilizes barcode technology to digitally track pickup and delivery of specimens and supplies by medical couriers. Barcodes provide accountability without collecting PHI. Documentation for specimen pickup and deliveries include, collection site information, courier ownership, specimen type, and date/time stamps. All information is reportable and searchable in MCE.

While barcodes are not necessary to run MCE, they are highly recommended to track specimen ownership.

Below are barcode tracking options for pickup and deliveries of patient samples:

Individual Sample Bag: provides the most detailed information in specimen ownership and is highly recommended for specimens that are irreplaceable.
Bulk Package: utilizes parent/child relationships for multiple specimens contained in one package. This scenario saves time for couriers at drop-off or transfer locations.
Transfers: a feature that provides medical couriers a way to quickly and seamlessly transfer specimen ownership to other couriers or hubs.
Client Prepared Specimens: allows customers to scan barcoded specimens into MCE for pickup. This lets couriers know ahead of time a site has specimens to be picked up and requires couriers to pick up those exact specimens at the visit.
Lab Drop: Designed for larger organizations whose couriers deliver samples across multiple labs within one route. Administrators can stipulate that scanned samples at designated sites or specimen types must be delivered to specific lab locations. This prevents couriers from dropping off samples at the wrong lab.
